Most recognized certificates: GIA and HRD

Understanding the true quality of a diamond — without being a gemologist — starts with one essential tool: the diamond certificate.

A certificate is indispensable. It serves as a guarantee of authenticity and quality, protecting you from uncertainty, misinformation, and potential overpricing. It provides clear, standardized details about the diamond’s 4Cs (Carat, Cut, Colour, Clarity), ensuring transparency and trust in your purchase.

However, not all certificates are equal. A certificate holds value only when issued by a globally recognized gemological laboratory. At Ilois Export, every diamond in our catalogue is accompanied by a certificate from one of the two most respected labs in the world:

  • GIA (Gemological Institute of America)

  • IGI (International Gemological Institute)

In our article, Which Quality Criteria to Prioritize for Your Diamond, we guide you through the certification details and help you choose the diamond that best suits your preferences and purpose.

Diamond Certificates & Laser Inscriptions

At Ilois Export, we make sure every certified diamond provides total transparency and traceability — peace of mind with each purchase.

GIA-certified diamonds are shipped unsealed but have a laser inscription of the certificate number on the girdle (edge) of the diamond.

For IGI-certified diamonds, laser inscription is optional on request, providing a dual assurance of authenticity: the official certificate and the physical indication on the stone.

The importance of laser inscription: It allows for a subtle, permanent method to associate a diamond with its certificate perfect for purchasers who want security and flexibility.

Be wary of Non-Certificates

Be wary of cheap diamonds combined with reports from non-expert laboratories like AIG, EGL, or others that are not accepted in the global diamond market. These reports tend to overgrade quality, and hence the appearance of value.

Always compare diamonds in terms of valid certification and true grading, not price.

Our Guarantee

All our premium quality diamonds of 0.30 carat and upwardsareaccompaniedby a numbered GIA or IGI certificate. IGI-certified diamonds may also be suppliedupon request sealed withintamper-evident, rigid plastic pouch from the lab.

Even if the seal is broken, the certificate remainsvalid. A jeweler isalso able to easily confirm the identity of the diamondusing the certificate information. Indeed, some jewelers prefer diamonds that are not sealed so that they can carefullyexamine the brilliance and life of the gemstone.
